Sawdust and Ernie Wise

By Brian Halford on Apr 9, 08 11:01 AM

One thing about Oxford - there are cyclists everywhere. A driver has to be always on the alert and I would like to apologise to the 17 I have cramped, clipped or run over during the last two days.

Another bright day - sunny but cold - and play has started on time. Carter and Rankin have opened the bowling as Oxford embark on eight overs batting before they pull out.

Rankin, abetted, at the Pavilion End, by the world's smallest pile of sawdust, went for nine in his first over.

Oxford UCCE 291 for 5. Six overs left.

Hello Brian I wish I could of been there today. I know a couple of our fans who have gone down to watch us. Hope its a more interesting day but I guess its just about getting some practice in. I wonder if they'll tamper with the batting order, because as yet only Maddy, Westwood and to a certain extent Trott and Troughton have had any batting practice.

Comment of the day yesterday .....

"it's clear the bowling has not been that penetrative, albeit on a flat, slow pitch."

I have tried to re-analyse that comment overnight to see if I missed your wounderful humour in it. I have decided it should be taken at face value and is probably, and sadly, a factual commentary.

Thanks for the updates Brian ;-)

Aye - it was factual...and perhaps a little kind!
