Daggett all-ten bid fails

Having Trott and Maddy operating in tandem with the ball before lunch on the first day might seem a less-than-menacing proposition but the Bears' depleted bowling unit has done a decent job this morning, abetted by a wanton act of self-destruction from Ben Smith who rather foolishly allowed a missile purveyed by Trott to brush his pads and hit off-stump without beng encumbered by a shot.

Daggett continued his fine pre-season form with good spells this morning.

The day is brightening a little after thick cloud. Not one bird seen on the ground yet this season.
