Bell to play on Monday

By Brian Halford on Apr 30, 08 01:13 PM

Peter Moores has acceded to Ian Bell's request to play for Warwickshire in the Friends Provident Trophy against Leicestershire on Monday.

Talking of Bell, by the way, chatting to various Bears followers in the last few days, I heard one or two - a very small minority, it must be said - express doubts about his commitment to Warwickshire. I must say that in every conversation I have ever had with Bell his commitment to the county has appeared total and never more so than the one I had with him yesterday, which is fully reported in today and tomorrow's Birmingham Mail.

By the way, this grass that has been so saturated that it was unsafe for cricket all morning - Warwickshire's players are now playing touch rugby on it. Spectators might possibly be wondering why the players, having scoffed their lunch, are not playing cricket on it.

These Bell knockers ought to look at his record. Robert Brooke informed me he even wanted to know what number player he was in the first class list to represent the County.

Roll on Monday - joke decision yesterday.

Any Warbler updates ?

Since the ECB have tried to stuff international cricket into every hole in the calendar it's almost forced England regulars out of county cricket. Bell has always struck me as remembering and valueing his roots.

Well, I wasn't going to mention it but, since you ask...willow warblers feed on insects and are unlikely to visit bird feeders. They are often seen fluttering at the ends of leaves and branches; in fact, they are searching the undersides of the leaves for aphids because this is where the aphids feed on the tree's sap. Gardens with lots of shrubs that encourage insects may entice willow warblers.

Couldn't agree more about Belly, Brian, especially having read your articles this morning. I have often sighted him at Edgbaston lending support for his team mates at meaningless Pro 40 games that the ECB have prevented him playing in; I wonder if "KP" is quite as committed to his beloved Hampshire?
