Arbroath Public Library

By Brian Halford on Apr 24, 08 06:33 PM

The close: Warwickshire 129 for 7 (57 overs). Salisbury 4, Carter 9.

Powell's plucky resistance ended at 24 (98 balls, 101 minutes) with an edge into the slips off Wrigley.

"Have a safe journey home," said the P.A. man in friendly tones. Evening sunshine is bathing the ground. A delightful scene.

But a shocking day for Warwickshire.

It makes me want to go to Arbroath Public Library and get a book out.

This really has been a dreadful day (again!).

Brian - from a Warwickshire point of view can you pick out a single bright spot from today's play? Another two wickets for Zondeki? That's about it surely?

It has come to my attention that during this game Northamptonshire are, for the first time, giving each reporter a £5 voucher per day to feed themselves with.
It's no wonder the smaller counties are strapped for cash. Why should blokes who just sit there all day and watch cricket get free grub into the bargain?
It's a nice generous gesture by Northamptonshire but wouldn't they be better off putting the money into their young cricketers rather than the bellies of a load of tea-swilling, free-loading scribes.

Raggy - Zondeki has pace and will do damage if it can be channelled correctly. That apart, the only positive I could possibly find from today is, as always, the unfailing good humour and good company of the Bears supporters in attendance.

Mary - You clearly fail to realise how much energy and effort we expend upon providing our vital service of keeping the nation informed.
I assume you would also withhold sustainance from firefighters and nurses and send lifeboatcrews out on to the thunderous seas unfed.

Brian all Bears followers ought to be paid a £5 allowance at the moment. Especially to watch us bat!

I've thought of another positive. There isn't a Division Three.

Aren't they talking about three divsions because of the IPL?

Mary - I've never been to Northants, but if their refreshment prices are anything like other county grounds the press won't get too much for their £5!! (you won't get change from £4 for a Pint and a Kitkat in the RV Ryder stand)

Although I seem to recall Brian saying they also had their own kettle in the press box so they are saving on tea costs as well.

Back to the cricket; Its good to hear that Zondeki has some promise. Though Giles and Donald have been in charge since last year they have probably only had a month or so to train and get to know the players. Given the three innings performances so far, I think someone has to come in for Carter next game and even though this track takes spin Salisbury and Botha are a bit of an embarrasment of riches, an extra seamer might have been better...

Surely Anyon must play against Leicester next week.

Re Mary, I feel I should point out that I know her quite well having lived with her and loved her dearly for 18 years but she just will never comprehend what a full-on, energy-draining, sinew-busting maelstrom of emotion cricket reporting is.

Charles Lister Higginbotham - with a name like that I think YOU should be playing next week; excellent potential cricket nameage Sir.

A hark back to the halcyon days of WG Grace and Arthur Shrewsbury when cricketers sounded like gentleman. None of these "Darren" and "Jimmy" yahoos.

Thank you Raggybear. I am available next week. (But I am 86).
