Steam summer sale again

By Ben Hurst on Jul 10, 11 08:40 AM

So the steam summer sale is here again.

I've seen a bit of debate about the merits of steam and generally why people should use it.

For me, games delivered on it should generally be kept up to date - and by that I don't just mean that they get the latest patches automatically.

For the older titles on it - such as Unreal Tournament, X-Com UFO defence and X-Com Apocalypse then it means (hopefully) that you can keep on playing them in modern operating systems.

So on to the sale - my total buy at the moment is around the £12 mark - consisting of stuff like a host of Gratuitous Space Battles add ons (indie game which has humour and is deeper than it looks at first glance), Darkstar One (in the quest for a space combat game that I can get to work on Windows 7, unlike the X-Wing series), Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition, some kind of tower defence game with bells on which was only £1.74...etc

It certainly brings home how little so many modern titles interest me, with a lot being console ports and, generally missing any of the innovative and quirky touches of PC games of yore. Yep - definitely lacking in personality.

It's also worth pointing out that some of the deals are less stellar than they seem - Blood Bowl legendary edition was given a 66 per cent price cut to £10.19 - same game available on amazon at £6.94.

Oh well - keep watching those updates every day at about 6pm (although steam seems to struggle under the weight of traffic!).
