Iran invents stealth flying boats (probably)

By Ben Hurst on Sep 28, 10 02:44 PM

Is this the coolest war gear technological leap forward of the year?

And it's not even been invented by America.PM1036099@IRAN FlyingBoats .jpg

No, the latest hardware to send a chill through the hearts of military planners comes from that forward thinking Middle East country Iran!

It's a stealth boat! Which flies!!!

Called Bavar-2, or Confidence-2, it is a radar-evading flying boat.

Iran's state TV says the country's powerful Revolutionary Guard has received its first three squadrons of the things.

Coming to an estuary, canal or other waterway near you (depending on progress of world wide revolution against decadent west).

Just to add a slight disclaimer in the incredibly unlikely event that this proves to be, in fact, a load of codswallop, the AP pictures do come with the rider: "THE ASSOCIATED PRESS HAS NO WAY OF INDEPENDENTLY VERIFYING THE CONTENT, LOCATION OR DATE OF THIS IMAGE" (not my caps)

Well, a country under sanctions, threat of invasion and bombing, what are they suppose to do? You want to laugh at them go ahead. That is progresses for a country whom imported every bit of hardware 30 20 years ago! Don't you think?

So, get a life.

Good design - very resourceful. By the way Esther, should a government that wants to wipe another country off the map not be sanctioned? Better than invading them right? Both ways are very sad for the people of Iran but what else will stop their unelected ruler? Don't bother replying - your opinion makes no difference to me and I won't be checking.

Nothing new here. Its disinformation. Those aren’t flying boats, but ekranoplans... a sort of ground effect hovercraft WIG (wing in ground effect). The tipoff is the wing shape, the dihedral angle on the wings
They just borrowed an idea from the Russians; who did a lot of work in the 70’s and 80’s as an invasion/defensive weapon delivery platform.
I think (the Iranians) have copied a design of Dr. Alexander Lippisch because it looks a lot like his Lippisch x-113 - Ekranoplan. Just minus the canopy
The only dilemma would be that dihedral angle of the wing would make them very unstable in rough weather free flight.
As for the stealth I would doubt it very much it has a piston motor which would have a heat signature. I can only envision that its only use would be a poor man’s maritime patrol craft as opposed to helicopters usage

Hi Ben, I needed to thank you very much for this interesting page about "flying boats". I've already bookmarked this site, and when I have more free time I'm going to have to do some further browsing here. Well back to day dreaming of Austria - or back to the work books - I wonder which one is going to win out.

Have a nice day!
