Batman Arkham Asylum deliberate glitch for people using cracked code

By Ben Hurst on Sep 19, 09 12:14 PM

In a move just as cunning as some of The Joker's wackiest plans, Batman: Arkham Asylum's developers have thrown a deliberate glitch into the game, designed to catch out software pirates and those downloading a 'cracked' version of the title.

PM392085@.jpgThe bug was revealed this month after a user posted a query on an Eidos forum asking for help, because his Batman's glide function failed to work properly.

Publisher Eidos responded: "The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection to catch out people who try to download cracked versions of the game for free. It's not a bug in the game's code, it's a bug in your moral code."

It seems there's already a crack available for the glitch, there's no stopping the pirates, what they fail to realize is that they're effectively killing pc gaming. Buy the game, its the right thing to do.

I think you've got a good point - pc gaming is the best gaming, no question, and if we don't want to purely have console ports we have to face up to the fact that we're going to have to pay. Let's not forget that prices on pc tumble pretty quickly so you'll rarely b e paying the release price.

let's just face it - whether it is gamers, news junkies or music lovers - a growing number of people want their 'entertainment' for free and have no respect for creators' time-consuming efforts in developing the very thing they love. This desire for freebies will eventually kill off the very thing they love, be it game programmers, new music talent or newspapers. The sooner they develop ways of protecting content the better.

Or maybe we should just turn off the internet and go back to living lives in the real world instead.
