Leona Lewis - HOW many viewings????
The rather tedious wrangle over Youtube music videos (see posts below) has thrown a few interesting facts and arguments into the mix.
For one, it shows how badly the music industry is doing - because of the internet.
With everything available for free, sales have plummeted and they are frantically trying to claw back revenue through digital use of their products.
Unfortunately there is a huge gap between what they used to earn and what they can screw out of the internet, meaning the whole business is teetering on the edge.
But it is also fair to say that music itself is still massively popular.
In the coverage of the issue, it came to light that Leona Lewis, (pictured left) the former X Factor winner had music videos on Youtube which had garnered an incredible 84 MILLION hits.
As Youtube is entirely choice based this means that on 84 MILLION occasions a person deliberately sought out and watched this manufactured, middle of the road pap.
Of course, there has always been a huge market for this kind of stuff but it never ceases to amaze me.
And if there was no-one with bad taste, then there would be no-one with good taste either and life would be one big grey dull mass.
I was going to embed a truly pointless yet hilarious youtube vid to explode my argument re taste (by proving my own tastelessness) but was horrified to discover it's been removed by Youtube for copyright reasons (what copyright - bl**dy G**rge L*cas again!!!).

btw 84 million views are just for one of her videos....the international version of bleeding love, the american version of bleeding love has 30 million views, and better in time has almost 40 million views, add that to other songs and unofficial videos of her its 'teetering' around the 200 million mark.....more than three times the population of the UK .....ok :-)
Leona has fans across the political spectrum, although she herself supports various causes that are undeniably left-wing (e.g. animal rights) and she also expressed public support for Barack Obama.
Have to say im loving the video but come on its blatantly obvious shes got that many views cause shes that damn good! I think shes friggin awesome and i cant wait for her new album and more brilliant LIVE performances which to be honest we dont get that much of these days from other artists!
Blimey - fair enough Leona fans - she obviously has an attraction to a lot of people and clearly sings live as opposed to lip syncing. And yes, 84 million hits is not to be sniffed at (especially from a down at heel blog like this). And my suggestion in jest the Leona inspires a right wing fanbase is wide of the mark!

Couldnt of put it better myself. These X-factor winners are not real stars. They just take other peoples music and warble it out like they were part of a stage show. Real stars write their own songs! And Leona, NEVER attempt to sing a Snow Patrol song again, its sacrilege!!
Leona Lewis is a MegaStar! Whether people will gonna like her or hate her she is 100 times better to any UK Artist when it come from soulful and ballad velvet voice.
There are plenty Solo Artist won so many awards but they disappeared and gone completely.
Leona will stay in the Music industry while her voice is pure and tender where people keep on buying her album!!!

Leona Lewis is fantastic. Just because she came from a reality show doesn't negate her talent and I'm not so prejudice as to dismiss her because of this. She is flawlewss live and is one of the best singers this country has ever produced.
and her Version of 'Run' just walks all over Snow patrols imo.
and yes, her total youtube views are about 200 million. The 84 million is just for one song 'Bleeding love' At least get your facts right before slagging her off.
And most of Leonas songs are originals.
It quite simple that juvenile, narrow minded, unintelligent people who love themselves think that all the rest of us, especially if a large group of us like something, are just idiots who are way below them.
The above article is a 21st century version of 'Let them eat cake' - it is not a slight against Leona Lewis, and excellent export and money earner in these troubled times (due to idiots like this), who is actually famous for having a skill - that this person obviously doesn't have. He is part of that breed that says if a few 100 like a band it is the greatest, but if 84 million like a singer he/she must be crap because we the public obviously like him/her and what do we know?
