NELSON WAVES THE FLAG...
OVER FIFTY creators have come together to tell the story of Nelson, a 260 page colour graphic novel to be published this November by Blank Slate Books.
The story charts the life of Nel Baker from her birth in 1968 to the present day. A 43 year fictional biography whereby each creative individual, or team, relates one day to give a snapshot of the character's life.
Edited by Rob Davis and Woodrow Phoenix, Nelson draws from the diverse pool of creative UK talent to unite not only those who have worked for the likes of 2000AD, The Beano and The Dandy, but for American comic book publishers such as DC, Marvel and Dark Horse, plus those involved in the small press, web comics alongside newspaper strip artists.
"I don't know if anyone's tried anything like this before; I just think it's a great way to show what separates comic artists from other artists. We don't just draw pictures, we tell stories!" Rob Davis commented.
"I wanted us to avoid the pick-and-choose aspect of most anthologies and get everyone writing their own chapters; working together to tell one continuous story. So whether a creator is your favourite or someone whose work you'd never normally go near, they all become an essential read."
Those involved include Jamie Smart, Gary Northfield, Sarah McIntyre, Suzy Varty, Paul Harrison-Davies, Paul Peart-Smith, Glyn Dillon, Ian Culbard, Philip Bond, Matt (D'Israeli) Brooker, Simone Lia, Daryl Cunningham, Jonathan Edwards, Kate Charlesworth, Warren Pleece, Rian Hughes, Sean Phillips + Pete Doree, Kate Brown, Faz Choudhury, Jeremy Day, Roger Langridge, Dave Shelton, Carol Swain, Hunt Emerson, Duncan Fegredo, Garen Ewing, Laura Howell, Andi Watson and Dave Taylor.
Profits from the first edition of Nelson are being donated to the charity group Shelter.
