Akira Volume 4

Akira Volume 4

By Katsuhiro Otomo

Dark Horse

Just under another 400 pages in this fourth collection of the Japanese mega-classic. Otomo slows the pace down a little; there are still many innovatively choreographed chase and fight scenes but the focus this time is on plot, and clarifying the story and its various characters' motivations (and some do seem to have evolved or digressed since the first volume).

Not a volume to begin on as a new reader, and worth reading not long after previous ones for those who have so they can keep previous events fresher in their minds - we are after all talking about over a thousand comic pages including this volume.

CARTER'S COLUMN'S very own digital colourist supplies today's Christmas cards - yes not one but two! - courtesy of Andrew Dodd.
