Rainbow Orchid on the Horizon

By Paul Birch on May 1, 09 07:24 AM

CONFIRMATION HAS arrived that the highly anticipated release of The Rainbow Orchid, written and illustrated by Garen Ewing and to be published by Egmont UK, will appear over three volumes.

The Rainbow Orchid is a comic strip mystery adventure set in the 1920s and its first volume is due for release this August, with pre-orders already available through Amazon.co.uk and the like.

Garen explained that the story was: "Partly inspired by the works of writers such as H. Rider Haggard, Jules Verne and Arthur Conan Doyle mixed up with a very British version of the Franco-Belgian ligne claire school of graphic storytelling, luminaries of which include Hergé, Edgar P. Jacobs, Yves Chaland, Floc'h and Joost Swarte,
to name just a handful."

If you've enjoyed Speech Balloons ' photos of European comic murals that can be found in Brussels, as featured over the last week, there's more than a good chance you would enjoy The Rainbow Orchid.

Award-winning graphic novelist Bryan Talbot (Alice in Sunderland, The Tale of One Bad Rat etc) has already said: "Tightly-plotted, well-researched and beautifully drawn, this book is a real delight. Garen Ewing's mix of engaging characters, exciting old-school adventure, attractive ligne claire artwork and fluid storytelling makes The Rainbow Orchid easily one of the best graphic novels of the year."
