BIRMINGHAM'S leading comic artists have once again teamed up with local arts charity Hi8us in a hunt for the region's best young talent.

They are looking for 20 talented artists to develop their skills under the new Comix project. The successor to the hugely successful Stripsearch project.

Among artists giving guidance are John McCrea (X-Men, Spider-man and The Hulk - pictured right), Hunt Emerson (The Beano, Wall Street Journal and Fortean Times), Laura Howell (The Beano, The Guardian), Asia Alfasi (IMAF Winner, Bloomsbury Graphic Novelist) and Andi Watson (Geisha, Buffy)..

Of course Laura and Asia were graduates of Hi8us' Stripsearch schemes a few years ago.

Comix is open to any West Midlands artist, aged over 16, with a passion for comic art and offers the opportunity to visit the the comic art festival in Spain as well as Birmingham's own International Comic Show.

Hi8us director Kulwant Dhaliwal said: "Applicants don't need any previous qualifications just passion, talent, potential and commitment to work hard."

Entrants should send in examples of their best and most recent
work. These should be photocopies of 2-4 pages of pencilled,
original continuous comic-strip preferably without lettering
The deadline is 6pm on Monday, June 1.
