Toenails
My big toenail fell off yesterday. Yes, it is grim, and yes, it has
everything to do with running.
It has been about to go for the last three months, and was caused by the
fact that my trainers were too small for me then. Apparently this is one of
the most embarrassing running injuries, but from this link, I reckon it's
one of the milder ones in terms of blushes.
It has reinforced my solid belief in getting decent running shoes. I did
have ones that fitted perfectly around my toes, and then discovered (the
hard way) that runners are supposed to get shoes that are at least half a
size larger than their normal shoe size.
But it seems I am not the only one who has made this mistake.
I was talking with a collegue who had done the same thing, and how gross
the consequences are, when another of my collegues walked past and heard
our conversation, pulled off his own shoe and sock, pointed at his own
black nail and said: "What, like that?"
Better, bigger shoes have made it so much more comfortable to run. If I was
to give someone one piece of advice before they start training, that would
be it.
