Injuries

By Hannah Webster on Jul 23, 08 08:44 PM

I've managed to strain my quadriceps muscle (the one at the front of my thigh). Although I can't be sure, all I know is that the front of my right thigh hurts a lot and people keep asking why I am limping.

It comes and goes though, and once I have warmed up it doesn't hurt so I have been able to continue training. I'm far too stubborn to stop anyway. I've also been wearing a tubigrip on it, which keeps rolling up at the top and is getting a bit annoying. Plus it means I have been putting more pressure on my left leg, and now my left knee is starting to hurt a bit. But hey ho.

Today I was running down a hill after heaving myself up the other side. I could feel the pressure of the tubigrip rolling up at the top and suddenly, without warning I got this shooting pain in my right ankle for no reason whatsoever. And for another unknown reason, this set off the pain in both my right thigh and left knee.

I refused to stop because I was going for a target of 5.5 miles in an hour (I managed 5.54miles in 58 minutes - woohoo!) so continued, albeit slowly, and it wore off. But while I was stumbling and swearing I would always roll my ankles before every run in future to warm them up, I must have looked like I really didn't have a clue what I was doing. Not wanting to put any weight on your left knee, right thigh or right ankle does make you run like a bit of a lunatic.

I am a little worried I will end up wearing three tubigrips and support strapping by the end of the week, but I suppose that is one of the benefits of never wearing shorts while I'm running.
