A couple of weeks ago I joined an ITV Central television crew at a farm called Turkey Talk in Balsall Common.

Obviously, they're gearing up for Cristmas when the demand for fresh turkey will be at its height.

But they were also keen to show off their smoke house, being used to produce smoked turkey breast.

Strawberries are not yet at their best, English asparagus is still on the shelves and I've yet to light the barbecue this year, but already I've received a press release from a major supermarket chain inviting me to a preview of their Christmas food and drink.

For pity's sake, let's enjoy summer without starting to think of mince pies, turkey, sprouts, Christmas pudding etc etc etc.

The release went straight in the recycling bin. Had the supermarket PR been nearby, it might have found its way somewhere entirely different.

Bah humbug!
