Fat of the land

By Paul Fulford on October 24, 2008 4:48 PM |

In yesterday's restaurant review in the Mail I asked a question that has puzzled me for ages - why so many vegetarians get fat?

The answer came in an email that arrived today from a woman who explained that her boyfriend doesn't eat meat, but scoffs crisps, biscuits, chocolate, cheese and lots of other goodies that can pile on the pounds - though, to be fair, she did add that he's not fat.

Thanks for the explanation. But it's posed another question.

Fast ending

Anyone know when Lent finally ends? Though I'm not a Christian, I like the test of willpower that Lent presents so I generally give up chocolate. Believe me, it's an ordeal for someone with such a passion for sweet things.

Trouble is, I'm never sure when Lent ends. One devout friend says Easter Saturday, another says Easter Sunday.

There's a cupboard full of chocolate just waiting to be devoured and I'd like to think the scoffing could start tomorrow. Help...

Missing chocolate

LENT'S only been here 24 hours and I'm already craving the pleasure I've given up...chocolate.

I've not visited a restaurant since Lent began, but I'm sure that as soon as I visit somewhere offering, say, chocolate fondant or fudge cake, my willpower will crumble like a digestive biscuit at the bottom of a fully packed carrier bag. Restraurants, be kind and remove all chocolate dishes from you menus until Easter is here. Please.

Those tacky chocolate eggs can't arrive soon enough. I can smell 'em already.
