Taking the pease
My experience of the north-east is limited, so excuse me if I'm totally wrong.
But is the cuisine of Geordie Land lacking? That's the impression I've gained from this week's episodes of Great British Menu, on which two chefs from the north-east are locking horns.
Kipper pie? Pease pudding? Hardly the stuff of which culinary dreams are made, is it?
It's perhaps unkind to kick a region when the chips are down - after all, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough are all struggling.
But it seems to me that the region's food scene must be the weakest in the country.
The result, perhaps, of a culture dominated by Newcastle Brown Ale, surely the most sickly and unappetising beer known to man.
Ah well, at least they've got a quaint accent and cultural icons such as Gazza and those giants of light entertainment, Ant and Dec.
Awah the lads!

Having spent a lot of time in the "Toon" on business over the last few years, if you or any of your readers are ever in the area, I can highly recommend The Black Door restaurants (http://www.blackdoorgroup.co.uk/) or Six, the rooftop restaurant at The Baltic (http://www.balticmill.com/visit/Eating.php)
Well worth the 4 hour journey...
But is it worth enduring the terrible accent?
Surely the only answer to that must be "Way Aye Man"...
