Despite its name, Mr Fish in the Indoor Market at the Bull Ring is also a fine place to buy game.

Walk past at the right time of year and you'll see feathered game birds hanging alongside furry rabbits and hares while below lie trays of venison and wild goose and other meat and poultry.

I popped there yesterday because I wanted few pieces of venison to cook for friends last night.

The fillets I bought were wonderful - deep red and veined with just the right amount of fat. Plus I got advice on how best to cook them....and a discount.

Briefly fried at a sizzling heat and served with a blueberry jus, they were wonderfully flavoursome, tender and succulent.

Bambi, you died in a good cause....
