Winter feast

By Paul Fulford on Oct 10, 08 10:54 AM

It's not often that my plates are anything other than empty when they return to a restaurant kitchen, but last night was an exception.

I was among a group of journalists invited to sample the new autumn/winter menu at Filini, the Italian restaurant at the eye-catching Radisson SAS Hotel in the city centre.

There was an enormous amount of food - a selection of superb cheeses and cured meats, bruschetta, a fabulous seafood and red wine risotto made with black rice, a lemon sorbet, wonderful tender beef stewed in Barola and served with polenta pungent with truffle, a selection of desserts.

The restaurant's charming and knowledgeable chef Chris Duffy regularly emerged from the kitchen to talk us through the dishes.

Sadly, the quantity of food defeated me, though I sampled every dish and enjoyed every mouthful.

But Filini is among my favourite restaurants and I'm planning to return soon to sample again the new menu.

To the Birmingham Mail Extra, I read your review regarding The Assembly Rooms and would like you to know I was commissioned by J D Wetherspoon to produce the artwork for the Inerior. I also have ny work in the Radisson SAS Beetham Tower and delighted to see these venues are receiving your highly acclaimed comments. I live in Acocks Green and work in Birmingham and will soon be having an Exhibition at Solihull Hospital NHS Trust in December and was again thrilled to be given this opportunity as I was born in Solihull Hospital. I aslo have work in Moseley and a number of galleries. My website is currently being redeveloped and will contain information and images relating to my artwork.
