Dressing down
What's your views on dress restrictions in restaurants? I hate them.
I've visited Michelin starred establishments in jeans and sandals and don't see any reason why a snooty waiter should decide otherwise.
As long as a person is clean and relatively fragrant, it's not up to the restaurant or fellow diners to decide what they should wear.
And yet....
I was chatting to a member of staff at Kababish in Moseley last night and he was told me that when he worked at Maharaja in Hurst Street in the 1990s, they had a ban on jeans and trainers.
Maybe that was a bad thing at the time for, in those days, many lairy young men - inevitably clad in such attire - thought curry houses were places to lurch when you'd already consumed ten pints of lager and fancied a couple more.
But clothing restrictions for purely snobbish treasons? Forget it. I'll at elsewhere.
