Linzie - you're a star

It's not often you hear a Brummie accent on a TV programme about wine - an area colonised by the sort of posh people who, despite their many advantages, remain steadfastly thick and unemployable in any truly challenging field of enterprise.

Last night's Channel 4 show Chateau Monty did little to challenge such stereotyping - with one glorious exception, a Birmingham woman called Linzie Bisset.

The series will follow the exploits of a chap called Monty (a stupid name for anyone other than a Field Marshall or Labrador puppy) as he establishes an organic vineyard in south-west France.

Linzie has been hired to help him. And the comedic potential of the partnership is endless.

She's got that deadpan, laid-back approach to life that is possessed by so many Brummies and though I don't much mind whether Monty produces the best wine in France or ends up making bottles of undrinkable vinegar, I can't wait to see how Linzie gets on.

I'm hooked to the series already.
