They're buses...not restaurants

There seems to be some confusion over those big vehicles that trundle along Birmingham's roads, picking up passengers.

They are buses the purpose of which is to convey people to their destinations in return for a fare.

They are not restaurants nor even cafes, which are generally located in buildings that do not move along our main roads.

All this seems to be stating the obvious, but step on board any Birmingham bus and you'll understand what I'm getting at.

There will be passengers - almost invariably not slender - munching on rubbish sandwiches or crisps or other on-the-hoof food, the packaging of which finds it way on to the floor along with the fizzy drinks bottles and cans these pasty-faced gluttons have consumed.

Shame on their litter. Shame on them for stinking out the bus. Shame on them for eating in the style of those never taught table manners.

It's all part of a culture that has devalued the enjoyment and importance of sitting down to a meal and now happily grazes - a shorthand way of describing a rude way of eating crap.

Travel West Midland really ought to take a tougher stance with these anti-social oafs.
