Syriana - not the film

By Paul Fulford on August 9, 2008 4:14 PM |

On many occasions I have passed and admired the thin, triangular, red coloured building that stands on a sharp corner at the bottom of Constitution Hill, but ventured in for the first time last night.

Various restaurants have occupied these Grade II listed premises before, but now it is called Syriana and serves Syrian and Lebanese food.

The welcome my guests and I received was one of the warmest I have encountered for a long time and the bill for masses of interesting and excallent food was amazingly low, which should please the bloke who signs my expenses.

A full review will appear in the Birmingham Mail's Food + Drink section soon and will be glowing.

All of which is different from my last experience of eating Lebanese food in Birmingham many, many years ago when the waiter's recommendations turned out to be a plate of chicken wings followed (after an astonishingly long wait) by a slightly bigger plate of chicken wings.

Then the waiter told us we were too late to order desserts.

Syriana is in an altogether superior class. I plan to eat there again soon.

I believe the website is still being built. Not licensed, but you can take your own (an arrangement I like).
