Filipino food
Filipino food is a subject - like many others - that I know little about. But I at least know a bit more than I did thanks to a visit to the Pinoy Foods stall in the Bullring Indoor Market.
The stall, run by David and Monica Bounds, recently won the best newcomer title in the market trader awards.
It's a fascinating place with a range of noodles, soy sauces, bottled goods and drinks that I'd never seen before.
David tells me the stall is popular with the many Filipino nurses who work in Birmingham's hospitals and also attracts customers from west Wales, Cheltenham and Stafford.
There's an interview with him in Thursday's Food + Drink section of the Mail together with a review of a very pleasant Japanese restaurant called Woktastic near Paradise Forum.
