A right Charlie talking sense

By Paul Fulford on Aug 14, 08 10:01 AM

Prince Charles isn't my favourite person.

I despise the idea of the monarchy in general and regard the Prince of Wales in partcular as a pompous and arrogant product of his privileged and sheltered upbringing who is not over-burdened by a brilliant mind.

Nevertheless, I think Mr Windsor spoke a great deal of good sense with his outburst against GM food, especially when he .warned that the technology would give too much power to giant agro-tech firms and hammer another nail in the coffin of small farmers.

We should be encouraging local growers to grow seasonal, local produce, not lining the pockets of huge multi-nationals.

I'm also suspicious of what the consequences of GM crops might be. Many scientists argue we have nothing to fear. But outcomes aren't always predictable. The unexpected can happen.

Scientists have been wrong before, especially when there are vast profits to be made.

For once, I'm happy to say well done to Chaz. I agree with him.

Jim, I totally agree with this blog.

Companies such as Mo..... and Sy....... ply the 3rd world farmer to buy their seeds.

The Farmer then grows the seeds - feeds his familiy - careful to keep back seed crop as they have done for generations.

However the GM seeds are not designed to germinate, so the poor farmer has to buy more.

This is world domination from the G8 to keep down the poor. The cash cow from these Agri-business companies is fat and immoral.

Charles knows this, and all the govt men say he is ill-informed, where sits their interests ?

Horrible ? ...yes it is - do your own research and corrct me if Im wrong readers.

Thanks for the input, John. It's a huge issue that hasn't commanded the attention it deserves.
