Food waste

Karren Brady's column in Tuesday's Birmingham Mail follows up Gordon Brown's comments about our wastefulness with food.

It's an issue that I've blogged about in the past and something I feel strongly about - we do throw away far too much food and that's plain wrong, especially in a world in which so many are starving.

As a nation we've become increasingly ignorant about food. Not for us the cheap dishes that satisfied our parents and grandparents. No making ends meet.

But instead of lecturing us, perhaps the Prime Minister should ensure that cookery lessons are given a higher status in our schools.

I wonder if MPs (of all parties) might care to donate a slice of their generous expenss account to a cause that doesn't involve buying second homes or furnishing it with goods from John Lewis.
