Edmunds opens

Andy Waters's new restaurant Edmunds has finally opened at Brindleyplace and I popped along yesterday for a chat and a coffee with him.

I was impressed by the ambience (modern, unfussy) and the menu (classical food with a light, contemporary touch).

Andy, who was at Simpson's when it first got its Michelin star and got one at his old Edmunds restaurant in Henley-in-Arden, reckons he might have opened too late in the year to get star when the new guide comes out next spring.

There's an interview with him in the Food + Drink section of the Mail and July 17.

My partner and I were the very first customers through the door for the opening night on Monday and we were completely blown away by everything about the new Edmunds!

If they keep up the standards set on the first night, they will have no trouble at all in reclaiming that michelin star!!

A shame that the web site is not showing any menus.

I'm really pleased to hear positive things,Pete. The more good restaurants in Bham, the better.

Yws, Clifford. I noticed there was no menu on on the website. Hope that's put right soon.

A few colleagues and I went on the 2nd night (Tuesday). This was the best meal in Birmingham I have ever had by a long way - and I have had a few working here for the past year away from home (including a 1 star (un-named Restaurant)- Doh!). Edmunds will definitely get 1 star and probably deserves 2.

I've yet to try the place, but the rweports so far are making me more and more impatient to do so.

We went to Edmunds on Thursday September 4th for a significant family celebration - and could not been more delighted or impressed. The ambience, service and food were all of a piece - superb. Greatly looking forward to my next visit!
