Restaurant delay
Flock wallpaper, the wall covering of choice for curry house owners back in the 1970s and 80s, is a whole less common these days.
So much so that its lack of availability has delayed the opening of Ruby Murray's, an Indian restaurant that was scheduled to open in Acocks Green last month but it still a couple of weeks away from compleition.
I bumped into its owner Tariq last night when I popped into his other restaurant, Deolali in Moseley, with my 20-year-old son for a pint or two and a meal.
Tariq tells me that flock wallpaper isn't easy to come by and he's had to wait for a batch to be produced to finish decorating his new retro eaterie.
He's promised to give me a call as soon as work is finished on Ruby Murray's - named after the Irish songstress whose name became rhyming slang for curry.
I'm looking forward to eating there. The 70s and 80s were good decades. Perhaps I should buy a Rod Stewart wig for the occasion to replicate the hairstyle I once sported....

Don't change restaurant spy - we love you just the way you are 'sans barnet'.
This has been done before. I'm almost certain that ther used to be an Indian restaurant called Ruby Murray's on the Stratford Road in Shirley until a few years ago.
IT wouldn't surprise me, Bill. It doesn't seem a hugely original idea.
I'd guess there'd also be a few Ruby Murrys in Glasgow, where, I believe, the rhyming slang originated.
I visited this restaurant on Saturday evening and enjoyed fantastic food in a very warm & welcoming setting. Tariq could not do enough to make us feel welcome so would recommend this place to anyone!
It's good to hear it's finally open, Nathan. I'll be paying a visit very soon.
