Another new restaurant
Kings Heath seems to have more than its fair share of small, independent restaurants, some of them very good. I guess it's something to do with relatively low rents in the side streets and a population that's generally well-off and young.
There's Maison Mayci, Blue Ginger, the Garden Cafe and any number of curry houses. Now a new tapas joint called Byzantium has opened in York Road.
I visited last night and thoroughly enjoyed the numerous dishes I shared with my wife and our older son. The food was good, the surroundings pleasant, prices fair and the service charming.
There'll be a full review in the Food + Drink section of the Birmingham Mail in a couple of weeks.
This coming Thursday's section, by the way, will include a review of another enjoyable new place but one with somewhat higher prices - Piccolino in Brindleyplace.
After a few months of inactivity, we seem to be getting several new restaurants. That's something I welcome professionally and as a glutton.

Can't recommend this tapas bar highly enough- authentic and superb quality food in. Great ambience. The breakfast menu is a real treat.
As soon as word gets round it will be buzzing. Enjoy!
Thanks for the feedback, Anon. I certainly warmed to the place.
Went early Saturday evening - atmostphere was great, even though it was early. Good variety of food, catering for diverse tastes. Decor beautiful and very original. Friendly staff.
Looking forward to next visit!
Ifr only Birmingham had more good quality tapas bars...
