A positive blog

Amazingly for one so erudite, my wife has been reading my lowly blogs. Needless to say she found fault.

"You just moan about things. You sound like a grumpy old man," she observed. There are no doubt colleagues only too happy to agree with her. And I have to admit I have been having a bit of a grumble lately.

So here, to balance things up, is a blog about something I like...Blue Ginger, the unfussy and friendly oriental cafe-restaurant in Kings Heath.

It serves mainly Malaysian and Singaporean dishes with a few offerings from Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. It's well worth a visit.

I just met up with its owner and chef Siew and her husband Pete and found them charming and enthusiastic people. Look out for the interview in the Food + Drink section of the Birmingham Mail on Thursday next week.

Tomorrow's F+D, by the way, includes a review of the newly opened Cinnamon Red in Balsall Heath. It's a piece of writing which, I fear, will confirm my wife's image of me as a grumpy old man.

I can only say that if the world met my exacting standards, there would be far less to moan about.
