Unsung heroes

By Paul Fulford on Mar 17, 08 04:08 PM

It's often the managers and top chefs who dominate the limelight in the world of catering so it was great to see less high-profile people getting some of the accolades at an industry bash last night.

The MARCHE awards - the Oscars of the region's restaurant, catering, hotel and bar trade - were held at the ICC. I was there as a guest of convivial Kevin Roberts, who owns the catering equipment shop Red Rob, and it was a fantastic evening.

Head chefs and up-and-coming chefs were honoured. Likewise managers. But so were hotel housekeepers, bar staff and other employees not often singled out for praise.

Well done to them all. Their hard work is essential to making this a great place to live and visit.
