Tuesday 30th June - Bye Bye Buell!
So today is my last full day with the Buell, and you have probably guessed that this has made it into my all time favourite bikes....mostly because it's like turning up to a Formula
One race in a Nascar, and there is something about that American racing spirit that really lives on in this bike.
So what did I get up to on it? Well I popped into work for a while, and then took it up to the awesome-tacular people at Express Insurance to have a meeting about some very cool things, including the chance for you guys to win some of Shakey Byrnes actual riding gear...........plus a lot more.......so watch this space!
After that I headed over to Pure Triumph to talk to the boss Mike to pick his brains about whether or not I should consider taking up bike racing in the GSX-R 600 Trophy next year, as he has spent his whole life racing at the highest level. What a chat too, I love talking to people about something they are passionate about, especially when they have some uber cool stories about racing too, and I can't tell you how helpful his advice was.
I am now under no illusions how hard it will be, how completely and utterly different it is going to ne from riding on the road and also what dangers lay within the sport, but being someone like me who is obsessed with bikes and competing, he reckoned I could probably give it a go! Before I make any decisions though he reckoned I should go to a few track days, see how I like it and then take it from there, something which I intend to do as soon as possible, I even hope to persuade the big man to come down himself and show me a few moves!
Oh and just so that when I get to a track day, considering I have never actually got my knee down yet and how lame new sliders would look, he even gave me a pair of his used ones, which will make me look uber cool from now, so sssssssssssshhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone!
So tomorrow Harley come and take back the Buell, and drop of a Heritage Softail for me, which I am actually pretty excited about as it will be my first Harley Cruiser, and it's always been a dream of mine to ride one of those beauties, especially in this weather.
I am getting ahead of myself though, as tonight I am going to take the Buell out for one last blast when it gets a bit cooler and quieter on the roads, to say goodbye to this wonderful machine in my own way before it goes back tomorrow, and then I am off to London for the day to try and get my neck sorted. Then upon my return I plan to spend some time riding the rather cool Suzuki GSX650F from Streetbike I picked up on Monday before I go and get all Harley on your ass!
I will blog back on Thursday to let you know how I am getting on with the Suzuki, and also to give you my first impressions on the Harley, so until then my illustrious compadres, ride safe!
