November 2009 Archives

A ROBERT Pattinson documentary called ROBSESSED is going online.

The film follows the British star and worldwide phenomenon of the Twilight series, currently breaking box office records with new release New Moon.

Robsessed is now available on the iTunes Store in the US (www.iTunes.com), Canada (www.iTunes.ca) and UK (www.iTunes.co.uk) from UK and US distributor Revolver Entertainment.

ROBSESSED looks at the extraordinary rise of Pattinson and the obsessive fans that idolise him.

The British actor has more than 1.3 million fans on Facebook and has already won a handful of awards.

The documentary is to be the first title from Revolver to be made available to buy or rent from the iTunes Store in the US, Canada and the UK.

"We are over the moon to be partnering with iTunes to deliver Revolver films across the US, Canada and Europe," says Revolver CEO Justin Marciano.

"Releasing Robsessed on iTunes enables us to deliver the film directly to our core audience and demonstrates our belief that the future is most certainly digital.

"The early adopters of this form of delivery are the demographic our films talk to, so for us, iTunes is the perfect fit."

Other Revolver titles available on iTunes in the UK include Jean-Claude Van Damme's self-parody action caper JCVD and Danny Dyer starring urban drama, City Rats.

Revolver also plans to launch further titles from its extensive back catalogue via the online store as well as its new 2010 releases.

POLAR IS STILL AN EXPRESS

By Graham Young on Nov 21, 09 10:38 PM

I WENT back to see POLAR EXPRESS (U) at IMAX tonight.

It's the first time I've seen this Christmas classic with Tom Hanks for three years.

My wife had never seen it and neither had our youngest, who is now six.

We all had a very enjoyable time because this is a fabulous film aimed at the whole family - it was really pleasing to see plenty of grandmas and grandads there, too, as well as lots of disabled people having a marvellous treat by being able to sit right at the back in the best position!

Polar Express is a bit daft in places, but it has a very warm, seasonal heart and some truly fabulous moments.

Thanks to those incredible IMAX speakers, there are also some tremendous sound effects... when the train comes it really feels like the whole building is being shaken.

Polar Express is on again at 5.30pm tomorrow night and again on Saturday and Sunday, November 28/29.

Because of competition from A Christmas Carol (which has also been directed by Back To The Future's Robert Zemeckis using the same 'motion capture technology) and, from December 16, James Cameron's new three-hour blockbuster Avatar, Polar Express won't have too many screenings even in December.

So the advice really has to be: Book your tickets now - and enjoy the ride!

HEY, girls! My colleague ALISON JONES has been down to London to meet Twilight star Robert Pattinson.

Here's her interview with him in which he gives his verdict on the second movie, New Moon, which is out in cinemas today!

Meanwhile, guys, you might want to run a mile. Check out my review in the Mail tonight or on line here at www.birminghammail.net.

"There's a high nipple count in this movie," laughs Robert Pattinson.

"I was terrified because I hadn't worked out at all and then I saw Taylor (Lautner) and felt incredibly inadequate and emasculated next to him with my prepubescent girl's A-cups."

THE BLAIR WITCH EFFECT

By Graham Young on Nov 13, 09 04:58 PM

IT'S TEN years ago since The Blair Witch Project was released in Britain on October 22, 1999.

Today, British cinemagoers can see the nearest film to it in terms of costs to make and profit returned at the US box office.

Paranormal Activity (15) is showing at most cinemas across the region tonight, before disappearing and then returning on November 27.

Like Blair Witch, it's been called 'one of the most frightening films ever made'.

I've seen it and, having felt the hairs rise three times on the back of my neck, can confirm that it's a fabulous ride to the dark side of our brains.

Try to catch it tonight so that you see it fresh, otherwise people are going to be talking about it non-stop for the next two weeks and its impact might be diminished.

My review will appear in the Birmingham Mail on November 27.

Meanwhile, I thought it would be fun to look back at my original review of Blair Witch, too.

So click on the link below to read my thoughts on The Blair Witch Project, a film which beat the system - but didn't bring it down.

HERE'S a chance to meet some 'Diamond Geezers'.

Film stars Danny Dyer, Ashley Walters, Tamer Hassan and Tiny Iron will be joined by director Alex De Rakoff and boxer-turned-actor Joe Egan after the 7.30pm screening of DEAD MAN RUNNING (15, 91 mins) at Vue Star City on Friday, November 13, 2009.

There will be 20 signed posters by 50 Cent to give away, goodie bags and autograph opportunities.

Normal cinema admission prices apply, but your ticket will include the free 9pm Q&A.

The film was backed by soccer soccer stars Ashley Cole and Rio Ferdinand and co-stars Brenda Blethyn.
