Nothing to instil confidence

By Roger Clarke on May 14, 10 11:54 PM

Whatever are the conlibdems, or libcondems or whatever the ragbag government calls itself thinking about?

I might be an old cynic but I reckon the chances of this mob lasting a full term of five years would make a snowball in hell look a fairly safe bet.

But to give them their due they are doing everything they can to cling on to power short of superglueing their well tailored bums to their seats in the chamber.

New Labour and its politburo tendencies were well on the way to taking away most of our liberties and freedoms when they were asked to leave but even they had not chanced their arm by trying to change the rules to make it nigh on impossible to get rid of them.

Yet the Camerlegg coalition seem to think it is OK to change the time honoured rules of debate so that a vote of confidence has to have 55 per cent majority thinking the Government are a bunch of shysters rather than a simple majority. Why not make it 75 per cent or even 100 per cent?

I'm a simple soul and I work on the basis that if there is a vote then if one side has a vote more than the other they have won - end of debate. And if the side with one vote less happens to be the Government then it's thank you, goodnight and cancel the milk before you leave.

Such manipulation of natural justice hardly augers well for the future.
