I must admit I have had nothing to do with HP Sauce since Heinz shipped its manufacture off to Holland taking a lot of Brummie jobs with it. Putting people on the dole for a few bob extra profit is bad enough but keeping the Houses of Parliament on the label and trying to pass it off as some great British institution has just a shade of cynical hypocrisy about it.
I picked up a bottle in a supermarket this morning just to see where it was made and found it was manufactured in Spain. More importantly though I noticed that the bottle proclaims HP Foods hold a royal warrant to supply sauces to the Queen. Now on the basis it is not British made, nor is it a British company and the simple fact there are a number of wholly British alternatives, such as Branston, then it does seem to be one royal appointment that the Lord Chamberlain should have another look at. Perhaps they could supply the Dutch or Spanish royal family instead.
Anyone spot the new school in Sheffield that cost £4.5 million which the head, a certain Linda Kingdon, has decided can't be called a school because that has negative connotations? Instead it has to be referred to as "a place for learning" Never use one word where four will do.
Universities no doubt are now "a place with lots of buildings for learning stuff what is harder than what you learn in just a place of learning" and hospitals are "a place where people who are not well can wait on trolleys for someone who has been to a place with lots of building for learning stuff what is harder than what you learn in just a place of learning and what had bandages and needles and pills and stuff to practice with to come and make them better.
While we are at it if it is not a school then it can't really have a headmistress, head teacher or whatever the PC police call them these days. Anyone have any suggestions suitable for a family blog?
