Frost in January shock
Remember a couple of years ago when the global warming gurus were telling us all we were in for hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. You may have noticed that there has been a bit of a silence in the old predictions department in the frozen hut on the other side of the snowdrift.
No doubt though our intrepid scientific carpet baggers are already filling in the grant application forms to build new improved climate models to explain why we have had the coldest January since climate change grants began.
Our scientists have not been slow to notice that if they stick global warming or climate change in a research proposal then funding follows as night follows day - The Effects of Climate Change on Naval Recruitment in the 18th Century or Global Warming and its Influence on Kent Apple Production in the First World War, that sort of thing.
And Governments love the whole movement as it is a world of taxes which can be fobbed off as responsible and necessary to save the planet - ignoring the fact tropical rain forests are being wiped out faster than ever in the rush to grow crops for bio fuels. No one looks too closely at the economics of the fuels, not while multinationals are making huge profits thanks to subsidies.
We have made a real mess of the earth and the creatures who live upon it so it is about time we started to think about what sort of world we want to hand over to future generations but that is all being lost under the crushing wheels of the global warming, bandwagon which is steamrollering all in its path with pseudoscientific babble and claptrap.
The earth has warmed and cooled long before we appeared and will do so long after we have gone the way of mammoths and dinosaurs and, no matter what the scientists came up with in their expensively taxpayer funded models, there will always be a risk of frost in January. It's called winter so put that in your model and freeze it.

Dear Roger
The consequences of climate change are not fully understood as long term weather paterns are extremely difficult to predict. Some models suggest hot summers and mild winters as the atmosphere heats up, other models suggest much colder conditions for Britain as Arctic melt water shuts down the Gulf Stream, which keeps our country much more mild than Labrador in Canada, which is at the same latitude as us.
One thing is clear though, climate change is going to result in more and more extreme and unpredictable weather. I think it's fair to say that we've seen plenty of that over the last few days.
But I do agree with you about biofuels. All they have achieved is the destruction of wildlife habitat and the loss of land for food production. On top of that, they have actually contributed to climate change through the destruction of rainforest which does far more to soak up CO2 than crops.
But I'll bet that inspite of all your moaning, you haven't done anything about any of these issues, whereas I have.
Dear Roger
You are not the first global warming sceptic to mention this and no doubt you won't be the last (sadly). George Monbiot has already written extensively on how there will always remain small blips where the weather dips whilst the overall pattern shows an undeniable increase perfectly in line with the rise of industrialised society.
Whilst you place your fingers in your ears and cover your eyes to the evidence supplied by practically every one of the world's top scientific advisers the earth continues to heat up and the climate changes drastically. Remember too that the evidence of the scientific community is impartial and often goes against the economic wishes of the governments they work with.
A truth that sadly remains inconvenient for many.
First I am not a global warming sceptic. The warming and cooling of the earth has been going on long before man arrived and will go on long after the current experiment ends and God puts something more sensible in our place. What I do doubt is that we can really control the climate. We have done our best to screw up the earth and are still doing it with bio-fuels the latest piece of mass destruction for profit.
Government's love global warming because it opens up a new area for taxation which they can pass off as responsible or green taxes. Notice, apart from paying consultants and setting the spin in motion with extra departments and delivery units, that green means taxes in and not money out as far as Government is concerned.
As for the science . . . well a lot is dodgy and based on supposition, maybes and theories based on limited data ignoring anything that does not fit in with the models, models which are, let us be honest, just computer programmes based on a host of assumptions bunged in by those who write them. Anyone with modest computer knowledge could produce a model which would show whatever they want it to show.
When we move on to the world's top scientific advisors then any who do not sing from the global warming song sheet are either ignored or, if they have any influence, are howled down like a scene from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. When we dig deeper into the background of these pro warming scientific advisors we find many are from fields which are to climate change what Morris dancing is to rugby league.
As for the scientific community being impartial and often going against the economic wishes of Government . . . let us start with NICE and the way it makes sure everyone has the life-saving or life lengthening drugs they need on the NHS whatever the cost.
Then perhaps we can move on to the pharmaceutical industry where iffy or even untrue studies to promote a new drug are not exactly unknown while big business is renowned for its dogged pursuit of the truth when it comes to radioactive or toxic spills from any of its sites .
As for scientists? Well they are not stupid. They rely on research grants to eat and they know if they bung global warming in the title the chance of a bucket of readies coming their way improves dramatically.
Global warming has become an industry and the chances of those involved in it pointing out the emperor has no clothes when that will also mean they have no job is about as good as any of the people making predictions about what will happen in 100 years time being around to say sorry if they are wrong.
