The Dr Who Exhibition
The Dr Who Exhibition is a fabulous day out. Even for those people who are not Dr Who fans it's really good fun. The Boy (nine years old) loved it. The Kid (eighteen months old) loved it, as did The Other Half and I...
It was a terrific day. The Boy sometimes has a tendency to just wander past stuff when we go to places like that and although he didn't pay much attention to some of the models there was loads there to keep him entertained.
There were min-films and animatronics that held his attention as well as a green screen and a prosthetic Ood to control. He really had a good time.
The best bits by a mile were the Daleks and Cybermen. The Kid wasn't particularly enamoured with them as they were big, loud and lifelike - but they weren't too scary for him.
Walking through the actual exhibits could take as little as five minutes, but if you stop and take your time then it'll take you about half to three quarters of an hour to see everything properly. Once you're in you can stay as long as you like.
ALSO who knew that Cov Transport Museum would be such a fun place to visit? I would never have known it existed, let alone made an effort to go there. We popped in because we got in free as part of the ticket for the Dr Who Exhibition.
In fairness, it was actually as good as the Dr Who section - it was a lot longer and had more to it.
The Transport Museum was better for older kids. The Boy could appreciate things like seeing the Dolorian close up, and loved seeing the Thrust and Thrust II. There was a Thrust Simulator, but the queue was 40 minutes long to get on it, so maybe we'll check that out next time we go.
There was a minor, minor incident when we lost The Boy, but that's another Blog..
If you're planning on going and you're not local to Cov, leave extra time for your journey. We had to negotiate the Coventry ring-road, then wait twenty minutes for a parking space.
Despite having booked a specific time slot, we still had to wait fifteen minutes to be let in. The Kid grew a bit restless, but we'd bought a supply of crisps and drinks to keep him occupied.
All in all it was great. If you're looking for something good to do with the kids this holiday, you could do a lot worse than visiting the Dr Who Exhibition. Well worth the entrance fee.
