39 weeks gone!
Do you remember me telling you some weeks ago about my friend Sarah? She is expecting her second baby at the end of this week, just twenty two months after the birth of her first!
Sarah was originally planning a homebirth, which caused some discussion amongst fellow Brummie Mums. Some thought it is always best to be in hospital because of the 'you can't be too careful' factor, while others were all in favour of being at home in a relaxed atmosphere because it's better for all concerned; problems are rare and moms can be transferred to hospital incredibly quickly if needs be.
There is now a change of plan - up till last week the baby was lying awkwardly (I would put money on this baby being male). Apparently he was lying 'oblique', which is not a type of triangle (as I recall from maths GCSE). It actually describes when baby is lying length ways across the womb, facing outwards.
Another friend recounted her labour experience when her first child was in an oblique position. The baby had to have her shoulder dislocated and she was then dragged out arm first. Not surprisingly, pregnant Sarah decided that she would rather be in hospital for what could possible be a very problematic labour.
At last check however, baby had moved to the 'head down and ready to go' position, but a hospital delivery is still planned.
Oh, I remember the last few days of my pregnancies - it's a whirlwind of emotions and is very, very physically draining. I just can't imagine going through that experience and still being an incredibly good mom to a very active two year old.
I hope that something will have happened by the end of the week - I shall blog as soon as I hear anything. Not long to go now!
