March 2009 Archives
Congratulations to my friend, the no longer pregnant Sarah.
She went into labour at about 2am Tuesday morning, went into hospital at about half seven and at 9am she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
I went to see them that evening and was greeting by a pit-bull midwife who wouldn't let me on the ward till visiting hours started.. some four minutes later.
I have to say that today has been lovely. I got a pile of hand made pictures and cards from The Boy and a 'hand made' card from The Kid.
Then the four of us journeyed to The Outlaw's house for lunch and some relaxing in the lovely sunshine. Thanks to my boys and Marian and Ben!
Yeah, a good day was had by all.
Alright, I might have temporarily 'mislaid' one of my children but they're all accounted for now, which is the main thing...
Just a quick update on pregnant Sarah, my friend who's baby was due on the 13th March.
Well, the baby has not put in an appearance yet, but there were concerns on Friday about movements and liquid so she went in for a trace.
I've heard hundreds of old wive's tales about how to start labour off. Here are ten ways rumoured to get things moving.
Maybe I jumped the gun a little when I decided to write that I'd done with breastfeeding. Not long after I wrote that blog (maybe a day), I decided that, actually, I was going to really miss breastfeeding. It was one of the few times when I got to have a cuddle without him heaving himself off my lap! I promptly took it back up, telling myself it would just be for a few more days...
If you go down to Wythall Park today, you're in for a big surprise.(Well, if you've not been there for a while.) I went there and found that it's all changed! It was a very different place to the one where I spent my childhood, misspent my teenaged years and used to take The Boy on a regular basis.
The day after my night out in Kings Heath, we journeyed Londonward to see Rona, a woman who until recently actually was pregnant (and not just doing an impression like I was the night before).
The beautiful baby was just two weeks old. I love spending time in the company of new babies and new parents. I love hearing the story of the birth, and seeing how the new mommies and daddies are adjusting to their new life. No matter if parents are anxious, overwhelmed or completely at ease there is always that tangible sense of excitement mixed with the aroma of fairy non-bio and that delicious, nostalgic 'new-baby smell'.
On Friday night someone asked me the worst question you can ask a woman.
There I was, dressed to the nines (or the eights, in my case), feeling happy and looking good.
I was out enjoying drinks with friends in Kings Heath; just getting into the flow of the evening "yeah.." I thought to myself. "I've still got it. May have two kids but not let meself go. Look out Brum, here I come!"
Then it happened.
Today I have mostly been researching ways of getting your toddler to eat healthily - although I have to say from my experience if they don't wanna they ain't gonna and there ain't a fat lot you as a parent can do about it.
Number one: Make Food Fun!
Now, you can try this but I have to say no matter how I presented vegetables to The Boy during his toddler years he did not suddenly forget his deep suspicion of the things and wolf them like they were chocolate buttons.
Do you remember me telling you some weeks ago about my friend Sarah? She is expecting her second baby at the end of this week, just twenty two months after the birth of her first!
