A Saturday Night In..
The Other Half and I were meant to be going out on Saturday night, but we had to change our plans due to the babysitter being taken ill. I decided to stay at home and have a nice night in leaving The Other Half free to go up Moseley for one or two sociable drinks.
Saturday nights should never be wasted. I had the option of doing all manner of things with my time - ordering take away, inviting friends round or just getting some hot chocolate on the go. What I actually ended up doing was having a really good tidy up.
Yes, it's true. I spent hours of a perfectly good Saturday night scrubbing cupboards and drawers, inside and out. I think the worst part about it is that I couldn't have been happier!
I wonder if this is a sign of my age, or the fact that I'm a parent. When spending the evening away from my boyfriend, given the option to relax or get down to some serious scrubbing I'd much rather do the latter.
I did finish my cleaning and tidying blitz at about half nine, at which point The Boy and I ended up watching Bill and Ted's excellent adventure (Keanu's finest hour!) and stuffing ourselves full of popcorn, which was lovely.
As it happened, the one or two sociable drinks that The Other Half was supposed to be enjoying turned into a good few more sociable drinks, and he bowled in at some point after 2am, having spent the last part of his night at the Moseley Dance Centre.
This was fine of course, although I was very jealous! He didn't even bring me home a refresher!
Come Sunday I was glad I hadn't ventured out the night before. The Kid was becoming ill and clingy - it would have been awful to have to look after him as well as recover from a night's antics at the big MDC!
Had I not had a Saturday night in that Old Mother Hubbard would have been proud of, I wouldn't have been able to devote my full time and attention to an ailing Kid the next day - plus I'm not completely past it. I may have stayed in on Saturday but I was able to partake in a fairly active Sunday night out, even if it was as far as the hospital...
