Old Year's Resolution
It's a vice many of us are guilty of. There you are, happily queuing up in Tesco, when 'Top Gun' catches your eye. You suddenly decide you haven't got even nearly enough Tom Cruise in your film collection, and £3 seems like barely anything in the grand scheme of things. So it gets plonked on the conveyor belt and you find yourself the proud owner of, well, let's face it, a piece of tat you're never going to watch.
But they're nice to have, aren't they? Isn't a respectable DVD collection a must have for most self respecting middle class families?
No. Not really. I used to have piles and piles of the things - I'd marvel at the excellent value for money. "Two for a fiver! Brilliant!" I'd think."Can't rent 'em for that!"
It came to pass that a good many of my shelves were lined with DVDs, watched once, taking up space and collecting dust. Charity shop fodder of the future, nothing more.
'Human Traffic', 'Wish You Were Here', 'Teen Wolf', 'Days of Thunder', 'White Men Can't Jump' 'Friday', 'Next Friday' and 'Friday After Next' to name but a few. Hardly movie classics worthy of more than a second viewing.
So, I resolved to stop buying them. And stop buying them I did. I also cleared out loads of old ones. (Apart from the Christmas films of course) My shelves are now clearer and I'm even going to give a fiver to Acorns in lieu of the many DVDs they won't get in a few year's time.
New Year's Resolution 2008: Done.

White men can't jump is a classic!
Human Traffic ftw!
The Other Half says the same about White Men Can't Jump, yet has he watched it in the last three years? No. My point is made.
What does ftw mean please??
FTW = for the win, get with it lady!
You cant give White Men Cant Jump to the charity shop, its just not right, Willie Hoyle is a legend!
I apologise, I of course meant Billy Hoyle!
For the win? I thought the letters had been mixed up and it should have been WTF.
Human Traffic was a good film in its day, but that day has gone.
