'If You Think I'm A Bitch, Wait Till You Meet My Mom!'

By Laura Yates on Oct 12, 08 06:58 PM

This was the slogan I saw written boldly across the pretty pink T Shirt of a 7 year old girl today. I cringed when I saw it. I mean, how awful? I just can't get over it, there are so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to begin.

First of all, even creating T Shirts like this, deliberately aimed at very young children is sick. I can't think of another word for it. But then, what 7 year old buys their own clothes?

Why would you openly label yourself and your child as a bitch? If you attribute characteristics to a person, especially to young people it is only a matter of time before they adopt them as traits in their personality.

The girl's mom doesn't actually believe her daughter is a bitch, not really (I hope.) But why would you say it, even in jest? Let alone wish them to wander about with it emblazoned on their chest.

Parents are well aware that people aren't going to look at their children and think: "Oh what a pretty/cute/sweet/well-behaved little girl". The parents know damn well these kinds of slogans will provoke strong thoughts to the contrary. They're saying "I don't care what people think of me or my kids. We can be bad if we like".

I feel it's using children to stick two fingers up to the world.

What a nice attitude. And the whole time parents are making these statements to anyone who happens to look, their children are quietly absorbing it all, growing into these behaviours as bread rises in its case.

Maybe you should run for Prime Minister, I think I'd like the Britain you created!

Hmm, now there's a thought!

Must agree wholeheartedly with this post, I feel the same about adult t-shirts too. Children are made targets all too often, we should be protecting their innocence, not exploiting it.

Its a Joke that got exactly the reaction intended. If no one was bothered these T-shirts would simply disapear

I'm sure shock is exactly the kind of reaction the girl's parents were aiming for, but it is using your children to provoke any kind of reaction, shock or otherwise is wrong.
I know the only reason clothes like this exist is because there is a market for them, but it is the fact that there IS a market for them that disturbs me.

It was my daughters top that was seen, and personaly i cant see the problem with it after all i bought it her,
the top is meant as a bit of fun, and i cant see the issue with it.
If i could find one that says if u think im a bitch wait till u meet my daughter on it i would and wear it the same time as my daughter because after all its only a joke.
An just for the record no i dont think my daughter is a bitch

I guess the fact that I bought a onesie this weekend for my 7 month old Neice, that says the same thing, makes me a horrible Aunt?... Even though my Sister laughed so hard, she cried.. I say... get over it, and mind your own damn business!

Hmm.. I am asking myself the question that I often find myself asking; ‘Is it just me?’ This is the kind of humour that I just don’t get – maybe I am old before my years and should just take myself off to an old folks home now, join the Tory party and live out my days as a grumpy old woman.
Thank you for adding your opinion to this debate.

The fact of the matter is you can't buy clothes like this for your kids and expect the world to see the funny side. I know two people who dress their kids like this and their both on the dole. they are sending a message to the world they are tramps.

Emma said:

As i said in an earlier comment it was my daughters top that was seen, i don't expect the whole world to see the funny side of it, an don't really care who does an who don't. I can safely say that i am not on the dole an I'm not sending a message to the world that I'm a tramp, because i'm not. It basically boils down to the fact that i have a different sense of humour to you, an who's to say whats right an wrong.
