Feeling Broody!

I'm so excited! My friend Sarah told me today that she is expecting her second baby - she's already 19 weeks gone!

Doesn't seem two minutes till her first son was born, just weeks before my own baby. In fact her little boy will be just 22 months when the new addition arrives.

This has got me thinking about whether I'll have more kids, and, if so, when? I have to admit, I've been feeling broody (shh! Don't tell my boss!), but I'm worried it would be more like hard work than an enjoyable experience.

The seven year age gap between my two is pretty much perfect - the older one is a great help and I get to spend lots of time with the baby while he goes to school.

So, what is the best age gap to have? If I didn't have to work I'd have ten of them, one after another, (or maybe four) but as it is I'd end up paying more in childcare than I'd actually earn.

Having larger age gaps does have it's advantages, but when I think about the exciting journey Sarah is about to go on, I just don't know if I want to wait another six years before I embark on it again myself.

Smaller age gaps are harder work in many ways, you are pulled in two directions at once often. but there are lovely advantages as you watch a fantastic friendship grow! Plus it means you get all the nappies and sleepless nights out of the way in one go. Have another, 3 is a great number, as I expect 4 is!

Yeah, I'm all for the getting it all out of the way thing, but I just keep thinking about the £50 plus a day I'd have to pay in childcare costs. (Boo!!)

ALSO if I leave it 3 or 4 years, I'll be 32, or roundabouts.. I'd be mid 40s before the hard work is done. That's mean I've spent my whole life since 18 either pregnant or raising young kids. But then, maybe that's not such a bad thing??

I'd have to see what the other half says about it too I suppose!
