Baby Halloween

By Laura Yates on Oct 30, 08 09:02 PM

Having a Halloween party for a bunch of babies seemed like a good idea when I sent the textvitations out two weeks ago. Then it dawned on me this morning there wouldn't be much for this bunch of crawlers, cruisers and toddlers to actually do when they arrived.

The usual Halloween games aren't exactly appropriate - bobbing children's heads into bowls of water in an attempt to grab apples might be a tad inappropriate, not least because some of the kids in question have yet to grow teeth. Also, I'm sure the NSPCC would have something to say about mummifying very young children in swathes upon swathes of cheap loo roll.

This particular clientele probably wouldn't be impressed by a nice selection of cheese, wine or a good film either.

My concerns as usual were unfounded - they thought up some brilliant contemporary Halloween games to play. After eyeing each other warily for the first five minutes, the motley bunch of pumpkins and devils wasted no time in rolling about in the makeshift ball pit, before moving on to emptying the kitchen cupboards. The subsequent war that erupted with the pillaged wooden spoons fortunately left few casualties.

I was pleased to see the spread of sarnies and crisps The Other Half worked so hard to prepare went down well - down the backs of the settees that is. They progressed to playing mash the cake in the carpet before it was wrestled out of their hands and put in the bin.

Bless.

I might opt for the more traditional apple bobbing and mummy making next year.

I think Erin showed a great deal of respect to the food as she placed herself in front of the crisps and simply ate!
Plus the excitment created by the cat walking though would have been enough to keep them happy!

not to mention the excitment created every time the cat wondered through your living room!

I laughed out loud as I read that (and I am in the library, sssssh ssssh!)

Hell hath no fury like a curly pumpkin with a stolen wooden spoon. Hope the Kid & the Boy have recovered from his onslaught.

Great party!

A baby halloween party? How cute....
I've put the perfect outfit for this kind of party on the Birmingham Mail's Style File blog.
Makes me wish it could be Halloween all year round, just for this outfit...
Check it out http://blogs.birminghammail.net/stylefile/

Cakes being squashed into the carpet? I had a similar horrifying experience not so long ago....only it was adults squishing mud into my carpet! Ahh bless, the little devil must have listened when i told him we should get our own back!
