The End of The World! (according to me, apparently)
There has been much talk around school that the French will be falling into a black hole tomorrow, followed promptly by the rest of the world.
"Is the world going to end tomorrow Miss?"
"What? Who on earth said that?"
"You did Miss."
"What? When?"
"Yesterday."
What? Hmm, I don't remember saying that, exactly..."
Thoughts of a mob of (justifiably) angry parents appearing tomorrow complaining of terrified kids loomed in my mind. I reassured all concerned that it was highly, highly unlikely that we're all going to die on Wednesday, and they should definitely do any homework they'd been set.
I started to talk about all the other things that we should worry about first- the moon floating off, or a super volcano in Yellow Stone Park - then decided that maybe now is not the time for contemplating impending doom.
I resolved to tell them that we definitely, totally and unreservedly would all still be here on Thursday. I have been talking about the goings on under the Alps, but I haven't suggested that the world is going to end tomorrow, and I did apologise if that was the message that had been taken.
I really hope that I allayed all fears - it's actually great that conversation for the rest of the week will be a bit more interesting and diverse than the latest computer game.. if we get that far, that is.
