Back to School...

By Laura Yates on Sep 4, 08 07:38 PM

The Boy announced that he no longer liked the coat he had chosen over the holidays. His shoes were suddenly so small he couldn't even get his foot in and he insisted on wearing a jumper that was at least two sizes too big. Meanwhile Billy the Kid was noisily staging his own protest against the perfectly good porridge I was trying to feed him.

Getting back into some semblance of a morning routine was never going to be easy, but the well oiled, getting ready machine I'd planned had completely ground to a halt.

With five minutes to get the lot of us out of the door I calmly asked The Boy to remove the five pairs of socks he'd put on his feet (no, I don't know either), the result of which was two perfectly fitting shoes.
I quietly explained that he could wear his old Blues coat instead, should he so wish, but would then have to do so for the rest of the term. The new coat suddenly became a better option.
I can't remember how the jumper situation was defused but somehow he ended up leaving the house with all clothes the correct size.

I just had time to look at him and marvel quietly at how grown up he looked, and wonder where my tiny little boy had gone.

I shovelled two more spoons of porridge into The Kid's pursed little mouth, grabbed the vast pile of things needed to see us all through the day and shut the front door.

Roll on half term.

Cheers Lucy - How I miss those days! I'd love a nanny (or manny) who could just hand me two washed, fed and dressed children on my way out of the door... actually if she could wash, feed and dress me while she (or he!) was about it that'd be even better.

Dear 'BG' - Porridge is a great, nutritious food. If I were feeding them gruel I could understand your concern, but they're fine... don't call the social on me, please!
