Nappy talk

By Victoria Farncombe on Apr 27, 08 08:13 PM

[Red faced]

Okay, so it's been five days since my hasty pledge to try real nappies and I still haven't pinned my first square of terry towelling.

But in my defence, I've been waiting on a phone call from Birmingham City Council to find out more about their intriguingly-titled Nappy Library, a scheme which allows parents to try before they buy.

I like to imagine it's a real library stacked with nappies of all shapes and sizes - possibly covered in rubber stamps and defaced by naughty school children?

But that doesn't sound too hygienic. And, besides, I'm not sure I want my little Mollykins wearing a nappy that's been soiled by a thousand other bottoms.

Anyway hopefully all will be revealed soon as I phoned on Thursday and was told Sandra, the nappy coordinator, would be calling back to arrange a time to come to my house and talk me through the scheme.

Until then, I'll just have to carry on using the Pampers. What a shame!

You could also get in touch with Nappy Happy. That's how I did. A nice lady came round to my house and showed me all the different nappies with no obligation for me to buy. I was pregnant at the time so we tried them out on a teddy bear. It was a big investment as it cost around £250 for me get the full kit, but it's proved to be cheaper in the long run and I'm glad I'm doing it.

Hi Victoria - come along to the Nappucino morning (if you get this mail in time!). It's held in the library Cafe of Solihull Arts Complex and 1pm on the first Tuesday of every month.

There are lots of nappies for you to look at and you can speak to other real nappy moms.

Thank you both for the nappy tips. Still haven't heard back from BCC so I'll come along to Nappucino tomorrow. See you there!
