The C word

By Victoria Farncombe on March 24, 2008 1:29 PM |

Last night Mollie cried non-stop from 9pm to 12 midnight until she passed out from exhaustion.

No amount of rocking, singing or feeding soothed her which leads me to think this may be the dreaded colic - helpfully described in my NHS manual as 'inconsolable crying for which there is no known cause'.

If anyone has a cure which has somehow bypassed the medical world, please do share...

Drive, drive, drive and then when the little beauty is asleep, very very gingerly lift them from the car back into bed...but remember one false move and you're back to square one.

Is this the first and only time? (This nightly routine would continue for a few nights before you can safely say it's colic)

How old is she now? Are you breastfeeding? What you eat will have a big affect (effect?) on how your baby is. Cut out different foods to see if it makes a difference.

Did she have injections that day? This can cause the type of crying you describe.

If it is colic...you will hear many, MANY possible solutions. Driving probably is the best but you may just have to resign yourself to the fact that you're going to be carrying your little one round for three hours a night.

Just take it in turns with your partner, and draft in friends' help to keep you sane.

Give it time. It won't seem like it in the thick of the crying, but it will get better.

Well, I'm very pleased to say it hasn't come back so I think it was just an upset tum. I'm feeding her myself and ate a lot of cheese that day so I'm wondering if that was the problem?
I've filled the car up with petrol anyway - just in case it returns!
