Villa's brave face of Christmas
A touching picture from Mail snapper Loretta Brennan, picturing Villa skipper Martin Laursen with Acorns hospice regular Luke Webster.

The club like it so much they have used it as their official Christmas card, again raising the awareness of the Birmingham charity.
Premiership clubs get knocked for lots of things... even Villa were criticised for the price of beer in the ground last week.
But some efforts put certain clubs above the others, and not many in football take Villa's commitment to Acorns lightly.
The Birmingham Mail was certainly proud to be of assistance. Full story here.

Lovely picture by Loretta. However, no longer a Mail snapper Mr Dyson...
She was when she took this great pic.
..then why not say "former Mail snapper..."?
was it done with a mobile phone camera?
oo-er Tony... desperate to score a point?
Loretta was a great BPM snapper and this was typical of her work.
Well Tony. After the shock of losing one of his best snappers, denial is to be expected. It's textbook ;)
It was her choice to go; why blame everyone else?
There are so many bitter ex hacks on here. Move on.
We're the only people who read this blog... ...and you.
memo to Big Steve ;
write more blogs in the New Year!
This one is old.
Just wanting to wish all my fellow Brummies (and Midlanders, of course!) a Happy New Year! Really hope it's a good one where we can all beat the credit crunch and enjoy life...
Bootless, I'm guessing the editor is on holiday which is why he hasn't blogged in a while (or wished his website readers a happy New Year - tut tut!)...
Hi Michael ,
Thanks for the good wishes , and a Happy New Thingy to you too.
Nearly a month since Big Steve last posted ,that's a fair sized holiday, still I suppose there is a month of feasting for the fella.
Perhaps he was made redundant ?
Bootless,
Surely they can't afford to let ANYONE else go so soon after shedding a huge chunk of the workforce - even a slack editor who fails to update his blog on a regular basis for his loyal readers?! Can they??!!
I like to think our posts will prompt him into action soon...
Michael,
After speaking to a former colleague over the past week, I hear that staff are having a meeting with the NUJ (workers Union) regarding the working practice. Since the cut in nearly 70 employees' things are not working out as planned (What a surprise!)
we told you So!!!............

Well , crikey , no one saw that coming did they ?
: )
Seriously though , I'm getting worried about the Big Man , I was going to buy a paper today to see if it still carried his name anywhere , but when I swaddled myself in warm clothing and waddled to my local newsagent there was no sign of our favourite newspaper , at 1.50 pm.
So it seems that apart from the production problems already mentioned , the distribution is now lacking too.
Any thoughts Big Steve ? Is there anybody there ? Halllloooooo
Former Employee: If that's true then that's a shame for all involved. It was always going to be tough for all the people who are still at the company - having to cope without their ex colleagues. But the company now needs to help them and ease the pressure somehow. I just hope they sort this and get back on track. After all we are talking about OUR local papers so I wish them well.
Bootless: An "editor's comment" has been written on this website about the Mail's Jaguar campaign so I presume the big man is around (unless the deputy editor or whoever wrote the comment!). When I get the paper, it's always later than 1.50pm anyway so I don't know about distribution problems. Again, I hope it's all sorted out asap.
But like you, I'd love some sort of comment from Steve...
Former employee/Michael, etc: Not working out as planned? How's that then? Teething troubles? Yes, of course. It was a big change. But progressively getting better every week. Needs another six months settling in and tweaks.
It's just a dent...
Steve,
At the risk of sounding pedantic, go back to my comment and you will see I started by saying "If that's true..." I wasn't taking it as fact that things are not going well.
As I went on to say, I wish your company well as I enjoy my local papers.
But thanks for the response.
True, Michael. I guess my comment was aimed at the Former Employee who said 'told you so'.
