Nice one Cyrille!

By Steve Dyson on Apr 8, 08 06:03 PM

Even our hardened football scribes sometimes star-gaze...

Just getting over the depression of WBA losing to Portsmouth on Saturday. Hope the team itself has picked itself up for tonight's crucial match at Blackpool.

Meanwhile, now I'm back in the land of the positive, I was musing on the whole experience of the FA Cup semi. And one particular conversation with Baggies' legend Cyrille Regis sticks out in my mind.

A football writer not very far from here so respects big Cyrille that he's named his son after him! What a tribute!

Cyrille certainly thinks so. Is in fact chuffed to bits. Respect.

Speaking of football... Any news on the Blues news breaking tonight? I read it on the Beeb and came here to find out what was going on courtesy of the Brummie experts.

It's a bit disappointing.

Just reading it now.

This is the kind of coverage I was expecting the Mail to come up with - and is proof that regional papers with strong links to people on their patches can always do something better than the nationals with their fly-in-fly-out style.

Better late than never I suppose. I was just surprised there was no update as it broke!

Thanks Naz, glad you caught up with our breaking news. A tough one this, because if we had given you all the info online this am, there'd have been no reason for you buying the paper. Around about now, the full story with all the links and extra content is on the relevant page at birminghammail.net.
Tell me what you think.
Thanks for your interest.

I don't buy your paper I'm afraid, I'm a web only person - I have a bit of a soft spot for the Mail and Brum but am based down in the country's *first* city nowadays.

I was thinking more about the lack of *anything* about it yesterday until the PA copy went online late last night that was my gripe.

It's cracking stuff today though so my faith in you all has been restored ;)

Goodo. Happy to be of service.

Interesting points you raise about web/paper content. Thre's arguments for upoading everything immediately, and we certainly had the breaking news last night on birminghammail.net.

But there's also an argument to save absolutely exclusive content for your paper, and to drip feed this onto the web.

Our paper was on sale at 11am this am, and we drip-fed the .net site from 9.30am. By 1pm the full story was up, with later updates.
